Our “First Steps” baby room is a large space with some soft carpeted areas for crawling and playing, and some vinyl covered areas for messy play and eating. Babies reside in this room until they are confident walkers, with carers who are chosen for their experience and affinity with the very young. We have a minimum adult to child ratio of 1:3 in this room.
The babies in this room have access to the secure rear garden and also go on a daily walk and occasional trips to the park (with your permission). We are flexible with our routines to encompass the routine set by you at home; this helps small babies to make the transition into nursery life more smoothly.
Older babies are encouraged to develop their independence in the “First Steps” room. By helping the children to do simple everyday tasks such as feeding themselves, choosing activities, ‘helping out’ with little jobs, they soon learn vital independence skills and feel very proud of themselves; while also finding these tasks exciting and enjoyable.
We follow the guidelines for good practice set down by the government in “Birth to three matters” and each baby’s development is carefully monitored. We work very closely with parents and carers and feed back to parents in detail. Although we are always on hand to give advice when asked, you are always in control of the experiences your child has.
